Barry’s Travels – Day 7

Awake during the night with the sound of thunderstorms. Our last day of walking did not get off to a great start weather-wise as there was heavy rain first thing in the morning. The sky did not look too promising either.

So much rain had fallen during the night that this stream had turned into a raging torrent.

Our coach took both easier and harder walking groups from the hotel to a cheese dairy in Pförn and we got to sample some of the delicious cheeses produced there. After that we began our day’s walking in the torrential rain up through a forest track and across a meadow. We stopped at the mountain top König Alm for a very welcome warm drink as at this stage we were soaked through to the skin. After the brief reprieve we set off along a balcony path and descended through a valley with numerous waterfalls and water cascades.

The day’s walking ended with a riverside trek to the village of Kreuth where we met the easier group and took a bus back to the hotel. We covered 7 miles in total today with 540m of ascent. I was very wet and miserable by the end of the day but it was well worth the effort as we saw and experienced quite a lot today.
