The ISF welcomes First World Atopic Eczema Day – September 14th 2018

September 14th marks the first ever World Atopic Eczema Day. This inaugural day aims to raise awareness of eczema and atopic dermatitis, providing a platform to elevate the needs of people living with or caring for the condition.

The ISF is a partner of Global Skin and welcomes this very first World Atopic Eczema Day, which signals a positive change for those living with eczema and atopic dermatitis.

Coinciding with the day, Global Skin will be launching AltogetherEczema– a new, central, global hub for people affected by eczema or atopic dermatitis, as well as patient leaders, providing resources, and seeking to empower collective advocacy.

In Ireland, we still know too little about the impact of eczema and the ISF has just launched a survey “Living with Atopic Eczema & Eczema in Ireland” to gain a better understanding and the real impact that eczema has on those living with and caring for this skin condition.

The impact of eczema is still poorly understood, we want to find out more about how many people are living with chronic moderate or severe eczema in Ireland, how it affects sleep, work, school and psychology“, according to David McMahon, CEO of the ISF. “We would like people with eczema to fill in this important survey to help us advocate for improved access to care and treatment”.

“To have eczema highlighted on such at international level, underlines the need for support and the increasing recognition of the seriousness of this hugely debilitating and often misunderstood skin condition”, said Paul Herriott, patient advocate.

As part of Eczema Awareness Month the ISF’s annual Eczema Expert meeting will be held on the 29 September in the Red Cow Moran Hotel, Dublin, from 10:00 to 15:00, and is supported by La Roche-Posay. Click here to register
