SIVUH Dermatology Conference, Brookfield Health Science Complex, UCC

The South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital held a dermatology conference on Wednesday January 9 in the Brookfield Health Sciences complex, University College Cork.

Ms Marianne O’Connor, ADON, Ms Ruth Lernihan, DON, Ms Eileen Cotter, Study Day Co-Ordinator & CPC, Ms Esther Hazelwood CNS Dermatology & Ms Breeda Bourke CNS Dermatology (all staff members of the S.I.V.U.H.)

The conference covered a broad range of topics reflecting some of the work of the dermatology department and included talks on psoriasis, eczema, hidradenitis suppurativa, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer, MOHs surgery and the psychological impact of skin disease on patients, as well as some related work from the hospital’s allied health professionals in Occupational Health and Physiotherapy.

A patient representative gave her perspective on living with eczema and there was also a talk on the cosmetic camouflage service. It was a most informative and interesting conference offering valuable insights into the often complex management of skin conditions at hospital/secondary care level.
