The Irish Skin Foundation is delighted to be a partner of SECURE-AD, two international COVID-registries for atopic dermatitis/eczema. One registry, is completed by healthcare providers and the other registry is completed by individuals with this skin condition.
Atopic dermatitis and COVID-19 registries
Atopic dermatitis (AD) also known as eczema, is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease. In people with moderate-to-severe AD, medications can be used that influence the immune system; either in the form of tablets or injections (systemic medication). The impact of these systemic medications on COVID-19 outcomes is currently unknown.
How do these registries work?
If you have AD and you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or when COVID-19 is strongly suspected, even if this was a while back, SECURE-AD have a self-reporting registry you can complete: SECURE-AD Patients Registry.
This survey will take about 10 minutes and consists of questions about yourself, your atopic dermatitis treatment, other conditions/medications and how the COVID-19 infection affected you.
Please also let your doctor know about your infection episode and ask them to enter your case in the SECURE-AD Physician Registry. Both online registries complement each other, are safe and secure, collect anonymised data and have received the relevant ethical/Institutional Review Board approvals.

Importance
By collecting worldwide data on COVID-19 and AD, SECURE-AD will make it possible to assess the impact of COVID-19 on AD patients and what influence AD treatments have on the course of the infection. This will help to guide doctors in their care of AD patients who are infected with COVID-19.
In addition, SECURE-AD works closely together with similar COVID-19 registries, such as for psoriasis, alopecia areata, rheumatic diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases, so that they can compare results and experiences.
This makes the impact of the SECURE-AD project even greater. In a joint effort the dermatology COVID registries can address the uncertainties we currently face.
